KTM at EICMA 2026: 450 RC, New SX-F Factory Editions and 2027 Model Updates โ€“ First Impression Review

By Indian Bikers Magazine | EICMA 2026 | Brand-wise First Impression Review

KTM returned to EICMA with a broad 2027 model-year showcase, spanning supersport, motocross, adventure, naked and enduro motorcycles. The biggest surprise was the 2028 KTM 450 RC, a new twin-cylinder supersport scheduled to enter production in late 2027. Alongside it, KTM displayed a new-generation 250 SX-F Factory Edition and 450 SX-F Factory Edition, updated 390-series machines and refreshed 1390 Super Duke models.

The Austrian brandโ€™s presentation was not limited to all-new motorcycles. Some machines were new model-year developments, while others received targeted equipment, styling or usability updates. This first impression review separates those categories and focuses on what matters to riders.

The KTM 450 RC was the major surprise at EICMA 2026. KTM describes it as a new twin-cylinder supersport developed with its own chassis setup, calibration and specifications. It is aimed at the entry and middle-displacement sportbike category, giving KTM a new direction in the fully faired performance segment.

The chassis package includes a 43mm WP APEX upside-down front fork with compression and rebound adjustment. At the rear, a WP APEX shock offers preload and rebound adjustment and is mounted to a single-sided swingarm. Braking hardware includes a 320mm front disc and a four-piston radial WP caliper. KTM specifies Pirelli Diablo Rosso 4 tyres.

Electronics include Cornering ABS, dual-channel MTC/ABS functionality with Road and Supermoto modes, multiple riding modes and a 5-inch TFT display. USB-A and USB-C charging ports are also part of the announced equipment.

KTMโ€™s 2027 SX-F Factory Editions introduce a new generation of motocross engineering. Both motorcycles receive extensive changes to their chassis, engine package, suspension, ergonomics, exhaust and graphics. KTM says the updates are informed by its factory racing experience and are intended to improve agility, stability, feedback and serviceability.

The frame has been redesigned with revised geometry, steering-head details and engine mounting points. KTM also highlights a lighter aluminium subframe, revised triple clamp and new WP XACT closed-cartridge spring fork and shock. The riding position has been updated with a slimmer profile, more leg-contact area, a new seat and revised footpeg surfaces.

The 250 SX-F Factory Edition receives a substantially reworked engine with an oval throttle body, oval intake ports, top-feed injector and redesigned valve train. KTM lists a 15.5:1 compression ratio and a 14,500rpm rev limit. The 450 SX-F Factory Edition receives engine and exhaust refinements, with KTM stating that peak power is reached at 10,000rpm.

  • New-generation frame, geometry and engine mounting points
  • Revised WP XACT closed-cartridge spring fork and shock
  • Lighter aluminium subframe and updated triple clamp
  • Revised ergonomics, seat and footpeg surfaces
  • Updated exhaust, airbox and cooling system
  • Premium race components from Brembo, NEKEN, EXCEL, ODI and WP Pro Components

These are competition-focused motorcycles, not road-legal dual-purpose models. Availability and homologation can vary by market.

2027 KTM 390 Adventure R

The 390 Adventure R receives a usability-focused update for 2027. KTMโ€™s announced change is an updated left-hand switch cube that enables optional cruise-control activation. This is a meaningful addition for riders who use the motorcycle for longer road sections between adventure routes.

The 390 Adventure R remains positioned as a lightweight adventure motorcycle for riders who want a manageable platform with off-road intent. KTM has not announced a wholesale redesign in the EICMA update, so the new switchgear and cruise-control functionality are the key confirmed changes to highlight.

2027 KTM 390 Enduro R

The 2027 390 Enduro R receives refreshed styling. KTM describes it as a lightweight, agile motorcycle designed for gravel tracks and technical trails. The EICMA announcement focuses on the updated appearance rather than a major mechanical overhaul.

For riders considering this model, the important distinction is its enduro-oriented purpose compared with the more touring-friendly 390 Adventure R. The Enduro R is aimed at a more trail-focused riding experience, while the Adventure R prioritises a broader mix of road and off-road use.

2027 KTM 390 Adventure X

KTM also confirmed an updated 390 Adventure X for after EICMA 2026. The announced changes include two new colour trims and a TFT display. KTMโ€™s UK-market information indicates availability from January 2027; timing and equipment may differ by country.

This update is relevant to riders looking for the Adventure familyโ€™s more accessible configuration. However, the final Indian specification and launch schedule should be confirmed by KTM India rather than assumed from European-market information.

KTM 1390 Super Duke R EVO: Sharper electronics and braking

The 2027 1390 Super Duke R EVO receives a focused update rather than a completely new platform. KTM highlights two new colour options, an upgraded 8.8-inch touchscreen TFT with a cleaner and faster user interface, revised handlebar switchgear and an updated Brembo HyPure caliper setup.

The Super Duke R EVO remains KTMโ€™s flagship naked performance motorcycle. The EICMA update aims to refine the rider interface and braking package while retaining the modelโ€™s aggressive streetfighter identity.

KTM 1390 Super Duke R, 1390 Super Duke GT and 1390 Super Duke GT EVO

KTMโ€™s EICMA showcase also lists the 1390 Super Duke R, 1390 Super Duke GT and 1390 Super Duke GT EVO. The R is the road-focused naked model, while the GT family is positioned for high-performance sport touring. KTM describes the latest GT models around long-distance capability combined with high-performance road dynamics.

The EICMA page presents these as part of the upcoming model range. Riders should check the local KTM market page for exact equipment, specifications, colour options and availability, as KTM notes that specifications can vary by country.

KTM 790 Adventure

The 790 Adventure is included in KTMโ€™s official EICMA 2026 model showcase. KTM positions it as an adventure motorcycle designed to balance comfort, capability and exploration. Its inclusion is important because it reinforces KTMโ€™s continued focus on the middleweight adventure category alongside the 390 Adventure R.

The EICMA landing page does not provide a complete new technical specification sheet for the displayed 790 Adventure. We therefore avoid presenting unconfirmed engine, suspension or electronics changes as new-for-2027 features.

KTM 125 Enduro, 390 SMC R and 125 SMC

KTMโ€™s official EICMA page also features the 125 Enduro, 390 SMC R and 125 SMC. These motorcycles broaden the display across lightweight off-road and supermoto categories. The 125 Enduro is positioned around accessible off-road riding, while the SMC models focus on lightweight supermoto agility and road-focused fun.

The 390 SMC R is particularly relevant to riders who prefer a tall, narrow, agile motorcycle with supermoto character. KTMโ€™s showcase describes it around sharp handling and responsive performance. The official page does not present a complete specification breakdown for every model in this group, so market-specific details should be checked separately.

What KTMโ€™s EICMA 2026 showcase means for Indian riders

The KTM 450 RC is the most intriguing long-term reveal, but it is not an immediate India launch story. With production planned for late 2027 as a 2028 model, Indian availability and pricing remain unknown. The 390 Adventure Rโ€™s cruise-control update and the 1390 Super Duke R EVOโ€™s cockpit and braking changes are more immediate model-year developments, although local specifications still need confirmation.

The new SX-F Factory Editions demonstrate KTMโ€™s continuing investment in competition technology. These are specialist motocross machines, so their relevance is strongest for track riders and racers rather than everyday commuters.

Indian Bikers Magazine verdict

KTMโ€™s EICMA 2026 presentation delivered one major surprise and a broad set of meaningful updates. The 450 RC adds a new twin-cylinder supersport direction to the brandโ€™s portfolio. The SX-F Factory Editions show a substantial technical evolution for motocross, while the 390 and 1390 updates focus on usability, rider interface and refinement.

For Indian enthusiasts, the 450 RC is the model to watch over the longer term. The 390 Adventure Rโ€™s cruise-control function could also be a welcome touring upgrade if offered in the Indian specification. As always, final purchase decisions should wait for confirmed local pricing, specifications, homologation and launch timelines.
